The last stage of life is a critical period. Most people face an accumulation of health problems and have specific and complex needs. This situation often leads to increased use of health care and services in the months leading up to death. At a time when Quebec's population is aging, and discussions are well underway about a shift towards more home care, it is essential to have a realistic picture of the use of health and social services during the end-of-life period for Quebecers. This is what Delphine Bosson-Rieutort (Université de Montréal, CReSP, CIRANO) and her co-authors propose in their CIRANO study Qu’en est-il des besoins en santé des aînés au Québec ? Portrait détaillé du recours aux services de santé durant la dernière année de vie, based on unique and detailed clinical and administrative data.
Organized in collaboration with the Réseau québécois de recherche en soins palliatifs et de fin de vie (RQSPAL), this 5@7 at CIRANO will be an opportunity to learn more about the study and hear the thoughts of three experts on these issues: Brigitte Laflamme, Executive Director of Maison Michel Sarrazin and Vice-President of the Commission sur les soins de fin de vie, Dr. Eveline Gaillardetz, a family doctor practicing home care in the Sud-Ouest-Verdun, and Isabelle Dufour, Assistant Professor at the Université de Sherbrooke School of Nursing and regular researcher at the CIUSSS de l'Estrie-CHUS Research Centre on Aging (CdRV).
This event will be moderated by Roxane Borgès Da Silva (Université de Montréal, CReSP, CIRANO).
The panel discussion will be followed by a cocktail reception.
This event is part of the programming for the 2024-2025 theme year: Efficiency at the heart of Quebec's healthcare system.
