On April 11th, the 4th edition of the « Women in Economics » event was held, organized by two Université Laval economics professors, Maripier Isabelle, CIRANO researcher and Catherine Michaud-Leclerc, in collaboration with CIRANO.
In her opening remarks, Aurélie Campana, Dean of Université Laval's Faculty of Social Sciences, underlined the importance of the event, pointing out that such an activity might possibly be cancelled if held in the United States. The Deputy Minister of Finance, Julie Gingras, was present again this year to discuss the place of women economists in the public service and on the labour market. From her point of view, the presence of women in all workplaces enables us to bring a variety of viewpoints, due to the different backgrounds and experiences they can bring to the table. This diversity is rich and beneficial for our institutions and for society overall.
Nicole Fortin, Full Professor at the University of British Columbia (UBC), CIRANO Associate Researcher and Fellow, presented her study « Gender differences in career progress among PhDs in economics ». As in previous years, the day included the student seminar on gender economics research (REG), with Raquel Fonseca, professor at UQAM, CIRANO researcher and Fellow, as discussant.
CIRANO is proud to support this event, which welcomes some fifty people to the Université Laval campus every year. Congratulations to the organizers!
