CIRANO highlights the participation of Julien Martin, Professor at ESG UQAM, CIRANO Researcher and Fellow, and Principal Researcher of the World Economy theme, who was invited to testify before the Standing Committee on Finance of the Parliament of Canada, alongside Geoffrey Loomer and Markus Meinzer.
In his remarks, Julien Martin outlined several central issues that should, in his view, inform the next steps in Canada’s approach to international taxation. He emphasized that tax avoidance practices are concentrated in a small number of large multinational firms, with consequences for both public finances and market competition. He also underscored the importance of greater transparency—particularly the public release of Country-by-Country Reporting data—and called for sustained multilateral cooperation in a context where global consensus remains fragile.
CIRANO congratulates the authors for this meaningful contribution to the public policy discussion.
