Marie Connolly and Catherine Haeck, both Professors in the Department of Economics at ESG UQAM and CIRANO Researchers and Fellows, each received a research grant from the Fonds de Recherche du Québec - Société et Culture to improve knowledge on poverty and social exclusion.

These research grants are awarded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Société et Culture and its partners, the Ministère de l'Éducation et de l'Enseignement supérieur du Québec (MEES), the Ministère de l'Immigration, de la Francisation et de l'Intégration du Québec (MIFI), the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec (MSSS), the Ministère du Travail, de l'Emploi et de la Solidarité Sociale (MTESS), the Société d'habitation du Québec (SHQ) and the MSSS Secrétariat aux aînés. The funding of five new research grants in the amount of $950,321 follows a call for proposals issued in May 2019 to the scientific community under the Concerted Actions program. The grants were offered on the basis of scientific excellence, on the recommendations of a peer review committee based on the evaluation criteria and grant award scenario presented in the call for proposals.

CIRANO enthusiastically supported the applications for funding of these projects. Marie Connolly's team will study the fundamental issue of socio-economic mobility in Quebec by providing a comprehensive picture of the influence of geographic differences and the role of heritage inequalities. Catherine Haeck's team will examine the influence of education on intergenerational mobility.
